Sedgefield feels like heaven

Brandt Snedeker wasn't even born the last time a PGA TOUR event was held at Sedgefield Country Club.

Snedeker, who defends his Wyndham Championship on the Donald Ross gem this week, is actually among 39 players who were still figments of their parents' imagination in 1976 when Al Geiberger won what was then called the Greater Greensboro Open.

Andrade hoping for pre-Playoffs power surge

Billy Andrade has just had two weeks off, so he certainly doesn't want to be idle another four.

"I think my wife will kill me at home," Andrade said, grinning.

Laird, Heintz make early bid for Playoffs

Bob Heintz has always wanted some fans to follow him around the course for a change. For one day anyway, he got that kind of attention, even if it took some ribbing -- and a remarkable start to the Wyndham Championship.

Jeev starts poorly at Wyndham Championship

Jeev Milkha Singh opened with a horrendous three-over 73 in the Wyndham Championship that placed him tied 145th on the leader-board and in danger of missing the cut in the USD 5.1 million event here.

The seasoned pro, who recorded the best finish at a Major by an Indian at last week's PGA Championships, found the going tough at the Sedgefield Country Club and dropped two double bogeys and an equal number of bogeys against a birdie and an eagle.

The 10th tee starter was off to a poor start, with a double bogey on the 10th, before compounding his misery with another double bogey on the 12th.

A birdie on the 15th rounded off his wretched back-nine at four-over.

Pettersson speeds towards Playoffs with third TOUR win

Carl Pettersson won his hometown event for his first PGA TOUR victory in two years, shooting a 2-under 68 on Sunday for a two-stroke victory in the Wyndham Championship.

The local favorite, former North Carolina State player and member of the tournament's board had three birdies during a four-hole stretch on the back nine, finished at 21-under 259 and earned $918,000.

Scott McCarron, who briefly led midway through the final round, shot a 68 and to finished second. Rich Beem's second straight 63 left him four strokes off the lead, with J.J. Henry (62) and rookie Martin Laird (63) another shot behind him.

Five punch their ticket to PGA TOUR Playoffs

J.J. Henry may not get to play a practice round next week before the first event in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.

Normally, that would be important since The Barclays is being played on a new course at Ridgewood Country Club. Henry has a pretty compelling reason, though.

He's going to become a daddy again.

After Henry played his way into the Playoffs with a final-round 62 at the Wyndham Championship, he was headed home to Fort Worth where his wife was scheduled to deliver their second child on Monday.

"Just a great way to end what's going to be an even better week tomorrow," Henry said after tying for fourth to post his only top-10 finish of the year.

Henry was one of five players who moved into the top 144 in the FedExCup standings on Sunday -- jumping from 177th to 137th. Henry, who is in the final year of his exemption for winning the 2006 Buick Championship, made a similar move on the money list.

Pettersson takes out Wyndham Championship

An "exceptional performance" in his first PGA Tour appearance has given New Zealand golfer Danny Lee the perfect warm-up for a strong tilt at the US Amateur championship which begins tomorrow (NZtime) at Pinehurst, North Carolina.
