I'm going to buy a new 3-wood soon and I'd like some opinions on a shaft. What'd you think?

This past fall I switched from Steel to Graphite on my fairway woods... As of right now, I like my old steel clubs better because they felt more comfortable.

Maybe after a few rounds in the spring or random winter rounds I'll be just as comfortable with graphite

Depending on your age and club head speed, I'd have a tendency to go with graphite, get a few more yards with the increased whip action. Just my opinion.

I have a steel shafted 5 wood but for my 3 wood i have to have graphite to keep my distance but again it depends on your age and swing speed.

I will only play fairway woods with steel shafts, you may gain a few yards but what good do those extra 10 yards do you if its in the trees on the right then the trees on the left then the trees on the right? My distance is fine so I am staying with steel in everything but my driver which has a stiff tip for control.

I have only used graphite in my woods. I have a two friends with steel shafts in their fairway woods and I have hit them both. I think I'll stay with my graphite. Has to be stiff flex though, regular flex is just way to flimsy for my tastes. I should add that I have only been playing a little over a year so take anything I say with a grain a salt.

I got a real deal on a Callaway 5 wood just after xmas. It had a steel shaft, tried it a couple times at the dome but just didnt have the club speed to make good use. I let my chum hit with it, he's a 8 handicap and 110 swing speed, worked fine for him. SOOOOO I had a Bonzai regular flex graphite put in and I'm really happy with the result.... now my chum slices with it....

I switched from steel to graphite last year. I could not hit my 3 wood the way I wanted after my by pass surgery. So I made the switch to Titleist 904F's with the stock graphite shaft.
I do not buy into this argument that steel shafts keep you out of the woods. Good swings keep you out of the woods. What you need to do is find the proper graphite shaft for your fairway woods. After all, do you have a graphite shaft in your driver? If so then the argument of being in the woods with graphite shafted fairway woods should apply to the driver too (Usually does, but most won't admit it

)
The key for any club is to try it before you buy it and make sure it works for you. I find I can hit my 904'F 3 wood with a lower ball flight into the wind, and that is a plus on my my course.
Look at the Pro's. I bet you would not find too many of them swnging steel shafted fairway woods now.
