irons: graphite or steel?

i'm relatively new to the game (two years into it). i got a set of X-18 irons last year and love them. this year, i bought an approach wedge which has become invaluable to my game.
the thing is, i got an X-18 52degree with a graphite shaft and it gives a whole different feel to my swing (in a good way).
i've been trying to find as much info as possible about the pros and cons with graphite shafts on irons but there doesn't seem to be much out there.
i have a super-dooper hook-up where i can get a set of the new X-20's with graphite shafts for just a little more than it would cost to get my X-18s reshafted.
i'm very tempted but don't want to throw away $450!
thanks in advance.

Some of your decision should be based on your "Handicap and Swing Speed". If your a 100+ and a single digit handicap, the stiffness of the steel shafts might be better suited to you. If your double digits, the graphite could give you a little more yardage and a few less pounds to lug around if your a walker. Because I'm a double digit'er I'd definitely be going for the graphite, but thats just my opinion.

yea what 65 said it swing speed is prob. the most important... I use to have regular steel shafts but since my swing speed has increased so im steel stiff shafts now.

Unless you're a senior, or a lady, I would not recommend graphite shafted irons in any way shape or form.

Cody you opened a can or worms on that one, lets hear your reasoning for the statement.

there are people that do need graphite that arent "senior" or a "laday" what about little kids there clubs are standard graphite and its all about swing speed and what feels comfortable to you.
