getting use to shaft flex

i went to a driver fitting and they told me my swing speed is 90-95 mph. my previous driver was a reg 905r and they fitted me for a new ft-5 stiff shaft. when i went to the range it felt really stiff, does this take a little bit to get use to? i have never had a stiff shaft before

I am suprised they fitted you with a S flex. My swing speed is around the same as yours and I use R flex in all my clubs, steel and graphite. I have been told by 3 CPGA Pro's that R Flex is what I should be swinging with.

Who did your fitting? Was he/she a certified fitter or PGA/CPGA teaching pro?

yes it was a certified callaway fitter from the tour van. he said that is a very common mistake is that people think swing speed dictated your flex. he told me its alot more than swing speed that goes into your right flex, like tempo and so on.the shaft i was fitted for is a very light weight fujikura 150 , he also commented that its a light weight shaft and not your typical stiff shaft .He said i that i was launching very high and recommended a 9 deg loft with stiff shaft. i would have never guessed that combo for me . i normally would go with reg flex and 10 or 10.5 deg loft he said my swing speed is on the borderline of reg/stiff. I just wondered is that stiff feeling normal and does it take time to get use to it .

golfbum your right! the club just did not feel right. I went to Edwin watts yesterday and hit the reg shaft neutral and it felt awesome. The guy running the launch monitor said I should not even look at the stiff flex and thats no were near the right flex for me . All the numbers were perfect for a 9 deg reg shaft neutral. I guess it just goes to show you that not even the Callaway fitters are right all the time. I ordered my new club today !

I am glad it all worked out fine for you.

I realize SS is just one factor in selecting a shaft. Tempo back to the ball is part of it too. A more violent motion back to wards the ball changes everything when it comes to shafts.

Remember, the lower loft you go the harder it is to hit the ball straight. Tom Wishon states many amateur golfers would benefit by using drivers with 12 degrees loft.

But hey as long as it is working for you then that is all that matters

I hope you can trade in the one with the stiff shaft.

i hit a 10 deg but the launch angle and spin rate were off. the 9 deg was perfect of everything. i hit my driver dead straight every time , well most of the time. i have a tendency to hit high on my ball because of my history of playing baseball all my life.
