Not a sport.
But by no means is it a game fully based on luck. I feel it is very similar to Chess

I'd say it's a game, not a sport, but it's amazing that the daily New York Times gives so much space in the sports section to poker tournaments.

It has the qualities of a sport, focus, desire, a fair amount of skill, patience, practice, but I think a sport is defined by having some type of repeatable motor skill, and unless you count flipping poker chips between your fingers, no, poker is not a sport.

Poker is a game of skill IMO. It requires no athleticism as evidenced by some of the big names...cough Raymer cough...

I think poker is a game just like pool, foosball, other card GAMES, chess, checkers etc. A sport should involve some athletic activity even it is walking 2 miles luggin a 20lb bag across hills and sand

I'd consider pool and foosball sports before I'd consider poker a sport. Those take a physical ability, but it's a very small one. Poker is not physical. It's a combo of mental ability and luck. It's a game.
