Is Poker a Sport

What do you guys think about this?
I do not think that it is a sport at all becasue it is pretty much all luck. It does take a bit of skill but I do not think of it as a sport.

I don't think anyone (even the pro's) consider it a sport, but to say that it's all luck is pretty ignorant.

if it's all luck then why is it that the same people are winning most of the time. there are great poker players just like there are great golfers. sometimes people come out of nowhere and win, but the majority of the time it's the better players that rise to the top. and it's not because they're 'lucky' more often.

I'm of two minds on this... but I edge towards "no" only because it's not necessarily the physical prowness that wins you games, it's a lot of bluffing and good luck and knowing the mental games to play.

Not sure... that is like asking if chess is a sport.

I'll admit that it takes skill to play good poker, but by no stretch of the imagination is it a sport.

The chess community keeps wanting to call chess a sport. They even tried to get it put into the olympics. I think a sport should have some physical requirements above and beyond sitting in a chair all day....

Poker, like all sports, takes some form of skill...but I still don't see it as a sport.

Definetly no, just use common sense and a simple definition of sports, like arcelt said, for something to become a sport, it needs to require physical activity

I think that this one is a hobby more than a sport.

I would say no. The competitor or player does not really go through any physical endurance or even breaks a sweat. Proably more luck than anything.
