Angela Stanford’s opening round Thursday in the Samsung World Championship was a mix of the good, bad and so-so.

The Saginaw resident’s final score reflected the so-so, an even-par 72, that left her tied for 12th in the elite 20-player field of the LPGA event at Torrey Pines in San Diego. She trails co-leaders Song-Hee Kim and Jiyai Shin — both from South Korea — by six shots.

Stanford birdied the first hole and also had birdies at Nos. 5 and 6 to go 3 under. She then bogeyed four of her next six holes, had pars on each of the next five holes and finished with a birdie.

The former TCU golfer is sixth on the LPGA money winnings list this season with $1,006,634. That includes one victory.
