Background:
“Boom-Boom”, “Mr. Skins”, “King of the Silly Season”, all nicknames for Fred Couples, a professional golfer who refuses to wear a golf glove, yet has developed one to the most rhythmic, smooth swings on the PGA. Couples began golfing on the public courses near his home in Seattle, WA and went to attend the University of Houston. He is active in a charity he started in honor of his mother; the Millie Medlin Violet Sobich Couples Fund and hosts the Fred Couples Invitational – as charity tournament in Seattle. Couples enjoys gardening in his spare time and currently lives in Santa Barbara, CA.

Professional Career Bio:
Fred Couples has won over fifteen PGA Tour events since turning pro in 1980. These victories include a 1992 win at The Masters, his only major to date. That same year, he stayed 16 weeks at number one in the Official World Golf Rankings (the first American to do so) and sailed past the $1 million earning mark – the fastest any player had reached the $1 million mark in PGA history. He has won the PGA Skins match five times, earning over $3.5 million and 77 skins in only 11 starts. His overall Skins Games wins came in 1995, 1196, 1999 , 2003 and 2004. Couples has made numerous appearances in international events – including the 1993 Dunhill Cup , where he won all five of his matches. In recent years, he has struggled through back problems, prompting a long over due win at the Shell Houston Open in 2003 – his first win in five years. The 2006 season saw Couples attempting to repeat at the Masters, though he lost to Phil Mickelson in the final round.
