The Michael Hill New Zealand Open Golf Tournament is in full swing at The Hills near Arrowtown.

The Remarkables are providing a spectacular backdrop for event, which began yesterday.

At the end of 18 holes yesterday, American golfers Josh Teater and Todd Demsey shared the lead at 7 strokes below par.

New Zealand Golfing legend Sir Bob Charles was facing the possibility of missing the cut.

A triple bogey on the 11th hole contributed to Dunedin's Mahal Pearce sitting near the tail of the field, at 9 over par.
