The goal she set for herself at the beginning of the year was to win a tournament and win the LPGA Rookie of the Year title.

After today, Jiyai Shin now has two tournament wins this season, five in the past 11 months, and sits in the No. 1 spot on the tour money list. Forget Rookie of the Year, she could challenge for Player of the Year.

Her play certainly earned her some notice this week at Locust Hill Country Club, where she played a solid round in the rain to win the Wegmans LPGA championship.

Officially a rookie on the tour, but anything other than a professional newbie, Shin was consistent through rounds two and three and held her own in deteriorating conditions on Sunday.

During a soaking rain for half her round, Shin finished with three bogeys and four birdies to shoot 1 under for the day. She finished with a 72-hole total of 271 — 17 under par, two shots off the tourney record and seven shots ahead of her closest competition. For the tournament, she had 22 birdies with just five bogeys.
