Spencer Levin parlayed an eagle and seven birdies into a 9-under-par 31-31=62 in his opening round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

The rookie hit 14 GIR and had just 24 putts in his bogey-free round. It bettered his previous low on the PGA Tour by one stroke (final round, 2009 Milwaukee). It also left him as the third of three to sleep on the 18-hole lead in Las Vegas, where 51 golfers are at least three strokes under par. Friday's weather will be nice, with sunny skies, little wind and a high temperature in the upper-80s.
