Want to wrap club grips from a roll. What should I use?

My goal is to acquire a roll (actually several) of grip wrap (think road bicycle bar tape) to wrap my club handles myself. The problem is, I'm finding nothing that is meant for applying directly to the metal shaft/adhesive tape. All i'm seeing online in terms of golf club grip wraps are "Oversize" grips wraps which overlap on top of existing rubber/cork sleeves which we know as regular grips.

I'm not a good golfer, but I enjoy the hands on custom aspect of maintenance like this. personalizing the clubs a bit more than picking a color scheme.

So my real question is, can I use bike bar tape with some golf grip tape, or is there a more official method to self wrap club grips?

Thanks a bundle for any help

If you don't want new "golf grips", I don't think bike wrap will be thick enough (unless you wrap it around existing grips). Plus, I don't think it will stand up to the forces used in swinging a club for very long. Not designed for it obviously.

What about padded grips sold for tennis racquets?

Personal opinion--just get golf grips. You're not saving any money here, better to get purpose-designed grips than improvising. Not worth it IMO

Good point about padding. Tennis wrap would definitely be better than bike wrap in that regard and with the forces involved. Regarding why i'm doing it, it's not for saving money, but just because it would be satisfying and fun to wrap them myself. I'm nowhere near good enough for grips to make a difference in my golf game (routinely getting double par). There are even textured grip tubes which mimic the shape of a wrapped grip, so I figured actual grip wrap would be a thing somewhere.

If there was golf grip wrap (not tubes) that i could apply directly to the shaft of the club, I would very much want to use that above all else. I just haven't found something like that yet.
