Although they are now a year ols, I figured I'd still chime in with a review of the Cobra S9 irons.
I went with the standard steel shafts, 4 iron to GW.
In searching for a new set, I tried quite a few different brands and models. I was searching for a forgiving iron set to help ease my still newb self into the game. I wanted something that had a nice light and comfortable feel. I ended up REALLY liking 3 different models, which were the Nike Slingshots, Mizuno MX-19's and the Cobra S9's. After several sessions at the local Golfdom, I finally decided on the Cobras for the comfortable feel (the stock grips are terrific), middle of the road feedback on ball strike(not too much or too little), and forgiving reaction on mishits. I hit the links just a handful of times each year, so the very forgiving nature of the Cobras has really made golfing more enjoyable for me. I can hit close to the heel or toe and the ball still flies straight and for good distance. I get much less slicing or tailing off of balls when the club face hasnt closed perfectly in a swing. They truly are a great club for beginners to get started with.
To describe their feel (club head weight and balance) I'd put them close to the Taylormade R7, or the Mizuno MX-19. They dont have the heavy ended feel of the Taylormade Big Bertha's,and they dont have the feedback of blades, so if thats your cup of tea these irons wouldnt be for you.
The finish and build quality are quite good, as you qould expect from a Cobra iron. I havent been a big fan of thier line of drivers, but they have a fantastic reputation for building excellent irons, and this line hold true to that.
For the beginner to intermediate players who are looking for a new set of irons, certainly put the Cobra S9's on your list. They don't disappoint.
